How about learning something about Kekova before joining this tour? Here is information about Kekova and what to do in Kekova!

Aperlai Ancient City, Hot Peninsula, Aquarium Bay, Üçağız Village ( Teimiussa ), Kaleköy (Simena), Tersane Bay, Hamidiye Bay, Pirate Cave and Gökkaya Bay… Here is the list of places you will discover on Kekova Island! But let’s start this expedition first from Kekova.

Heaven on Earth: Kekova

“If there is a paradise in this world, it is the Mediterranean coast from Antalya to Fethiye . But the rumor is that that paradise is Kekova .” This is exactly how Falih Rıfkı Atay describes Kekova in my book called Bizim Akdeniz . It’s not unfair either. Kekova Island , a paradise painted in turquoise on the Mediterranean coast . This rocky and small island of 4.5 square kilometers attracts locals and foreigners with its sunken city, historical ruins and nature. It is not possible to reach the island by road. Transportation can be provided by boats departing from Kaş and Kalkan.

Kekova is located in Üçağız Village of Demre . Located in the bay, which is a natural harbor, this old fishing village is full of historical ruins. That’s why it’s a natural and historical site… Construction is prohibited in Üçağız. Necropolis , Lycian sarcophagi and stone houses can be seen by daily boat tour in the region, which is one of the most important points on the historical Lycian Way . The Theimussa Ancient City in Üçağız is one of the smaller cities of the Lycian League, but it has an important feature: Theimussa Ancient City is the only point of the region that can be reached by road.

Another of the historical sites that should be seen in Üçağız and which is famous in the world is the Ancient City of Simena . Simena is known as Kaleköy today . Kaleköy is one of the rare settlements on land that does not have road access in Turkey. The Simena Castle , located here, resembles an eagle’s nest when viewed from the sea and dates back to the 4th century BC. To reach Simena Castle , you have to climb 400 meters between historical monuments and stone houses. Let us remind you that this tiring climb under the heat is worth it. The scenery you will encounter when you go up to the castle is fascinating. Let’s also leave it as a note here that the smallest Roman amphitheater of Turkey is located inside the castle. At the top of the castle, you can see the Ottoman cannon, which was produced with the contributions of Rahmi Koç, one of Turkey’s valuable businessmen.

Do you remember the sarcophagus that you come across in promotional videos for Turkey’s tourism? That famous Lycian sarcophagus is located in Simena Castle. Since the area was declared a protected area in 1990, it is possible to swim in limited areas here. Areas for diving tourism are also limited. Boats can only anchor in Tersane Bay and swimming is allowed only in this part of Kekova Island. You can swim a lot to see the ruins . ,

Kekova Shipyard Bay

Tersane Bay, located in the west of Kekova Island, is the only bay of the island where you can swim. You can make a civilization journey on the island, which is full of ruins from the Lycian and Roman periods, or in other words, you can witness the history of civilizations by swimming. One of the details that make people swallow their tongue in the shipyard bay is the thought of how such a shipyard could be established in ancient times. It is really hard to imagine what kind of technology a submerged civilization could have had at that time. As you guessed, there is a Sunken City in Tersane Bay. One of the most attractive aspects of the island is this sunken city. All the shops that produce the materials used in shipbuilding have been submerged. During the boat tour, those shops are passed over.

, you will see the remains of a Hellenistic tower, three large churches, two chapels and port structures belonging to the city of Dolichiste . While crossing the bay by boat, you will notice the ruins from the ancient and Roman-Byzantine periods, located parallel to the land. Watch out for the ancient stairs! Then you will understand that there is no connection between the buildings by land and the entrances and exits are made by sea. The lower parts of these ruins were flooded due to the earthquake. This is how the story of the Sunken City begins. Sunken City can be visited with daily boat tours or canoe tours. Boat tours departing from Kaş and Kalkan are the most effortless way to discover Kekova. If the sea is calm during your boat tour, you are lucky. On such days, you can see dozens of amphorae lying under the water. Tersane Bay s cuba It is one of the bays that add value to Turkey in terms of diving tourism.

Historical richness: Gökkaya Bay

The beauties of Kekova Island do not seem to end with describing, so you must experience them. But before you have this experience, let’s get you a little more excited: Kekova has another paradise point in the direction of Demre, which has the characteristics of a natural harbor: Gökkaya Bay . Pirates Cave and Asırlı Island in the bay are also special points that attract attention.

Aquarium Bay in almost every region on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts . Of course, these bays take their name from the cleanliness of the sea, the clarity of the water and the diversity of sea creatures. However, we can say that the most important place on the Turkish coast that gives this name its real right is Aquarium Bay in Kekova . One of the moments that will stick in your mind during the Kekova boat tour experience will be your encounter with Aquarium Bay .
